We enable government and decision makers to understand complex system behaviour in order to create data-driven policy.
Brady Heywood helps decision-makers in government take a systems thinking approach to addressing long-standing industry-wide challenges that incur significant community impact and cost. For example, Sean Brady was commissioned by the Queensland Government to carry out a review into all fatal accidents in Queensland mines and quarries from 2000 to 2019. The review delivered eleven recommendations and was tabled in Queensland Parliament in February 2020.
Our approach to tackling these challenges is to help decision-makers understand and influence the behaviour of complex systems. A complex system is not simply the sum of its parts; they are systems that exhibit non-linearity, interact with their environment and produce emergent behaviours.
By taking a systems thinking approach, we look at the behaviour of the system as a whole, particularly the interactions between its various parts, rather than focusing on isolated parts of the system. Key to understanding system behaviour is the application of a forensic mindset, coupled with high impact data intelligence techniques such as machine learning, to help discover how the system actually works in reality, rather than the way it was intended to work.
